How are you, really?
Whew! That’s a good question. I’m tired and overwhelmed. My husband works a lot, and we have twin toddlers, so I’m doing a lot of parenting work on my own. They are in daycare, which helps, and I am off most Fridays, so at least I get to have a day alone. He cooks and helps at bath time, which I am grateful for.
What is the greatest change you’ve made this year?
I started exercising consistently. Like, I rarely take more than 2 days off from working out. And it doesn’t have to be intense. Some days I go hard; other days I’m stretching or just going for a walk. I really do have more energy and mental clarity from staying on top of it.
What is something you hope never changes?
I hope my relationship with my husband and children never changes. I love them all so much.
When do you feel most capable?
I feel most capable after a good workout. You can’t tell me shit! Haha
How do you nurture yourself?
On Fridays, when I’m off work and by myself, I do wash day with my hair, I do my own lashes, and I do my press-on nails. I save so much time and money! And I’ve become obsessed with taking care of myself like that. It makes me feel beautiful and like I’m really taking care of me.
How do you nurture others?
I’m a “words of affirmation” girl, so I’m constantly giving words of encouragement to my loved ones.
Is there anything you wish you had said but didn’t?
I wish I knew how to address things that bother me on the spot instead of holding them in, because then they boil over, and I snap. Or sometimes I don’t say anything and feel like “damn, I need to stand up for myself more.”
What is something that turns you on?
I love seeing my man dressed up and smelling good. A handsome man who dresses well is a turn-on to me!
What is something that turns you off?
I hate inconsistency. Do what you say you are going to do. I don’t like any feeling of instability.
When was the last time you walked away from something that no longer served you?
I’m in the process of doing that now. I’ve been with my employer for over 5 years, but I’m ready for something else.
How often do you feel you achieve balance?
Tuh! Never. I forget something every single day.
What is one risk you took that resulted in reward?
I answered an Instagram DM 10 years ago and had twins with the love of my life.
When do you feel most overwhelmed?
When both twins are crying/whining/having a tantrum, and I’m alone.
How do you move forward?
Literally, I take a deep breath and do the task at hand. The noise doesn’t last forever. They’re easily distracted. We move on to the next thing.
What is something that will always make you laugh?
Anything comedy. I don’t care if it’s improv, stand-up, a movie, or just TikTok. It cracks me up.
What is something that will always make you cry?
Harsh words directed at me. Family members passing away, no matter how close or not close we may have been. Death is permanent.
Have you ever been betrayed?
OMG yes! And it pisses me off because I always feel like people can communicate and move forward some way or somehow. Don’t do stuff behind my back!
What is your greatest temptation?
I am so tempted to just quit my job on the spot. But I don’t like leaving things messy or burning bridges.
What is one thing you feel is missing from your current life?
I miss the village. We don’t live near our parents or siblings. I miss them, and I hate that my children don’t get to bond with them often. I loved growing up around my extended family.
What is one thing you can’t get enough of?
Glorilla’s new album. She makes me feel like I’m 24, fresh out of grad school again. Living my best life!
BONUS: Tell me something good.
The twins open their books and say, “Night night, I love you” and I know for a fact they got that from me. I look forward to raising good global citizens.
