#69. the introvert's introvert, showing compassion & being your own cheerleader

Age: 24

Relationship Status: Very, very, very single

Occupation:  Speech Language Pathologist

Income:  Not enough (haha)

Astrological Sign: Taurus

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Hit the snooze button; I am totally not a morning person!

Have you ever felt genuine fulfillment? When?

I would have to say when I’m at work. I’ve worked with a lot of people with brain injuries and strokes, and even though it’s incredibly sad, seeing my patients make progress and gain back their independence is so rewarding.

What is your most repetitive, negative thought?

That I will never find “my person.” I’ve never been in a relationship, and I’ve never really had a true best friend, so the thought that I might end up alone keeps me up at night.

What is your most repetitive, positive thought?

That I’m a good person.

What is one thing that surprised you about adulthood?

How damn hard it is to come up with something to eat every night for dinner! I miss my mom just telling me what to eat!

What are three things you want to put every woman onto?

  1. Daily walks

  2. Dance breaks

  3. Solo dates

Rank the following from most to least important:

money, food, sex, love, and laughter (feel free to explain or don’t).

Laughter, love, money, food, sex. If you can’t laugh at yourself, what’s the point?

How has your relationship with your parents/ guardians changed in adulthood?

It hasn’t changed much; we’ve always been close, but I’ve realized they don’t know everything. Growing up, I thought my dad was the smartest person ever and had all the answers, but as I’ve started facing more adult responsibilities like insurance, taxes, budgeting, and saving, I realize he doesn’t know as much as I thought. He’s still the smartest person I know, but even he doesn’t know everything.

When do you feel most like yourself?

When I’m working on one of my arts and crafts projects. I always say I have an artsy soul with none of the talent, but that doesn’t stop me from creating!

What is the best compliment someone has ever given you?

That if I were a season, I would be fall.

How do you feel about falling in love?

Never been close to experiencing it and I’m not sure if it will ever happen. My heart is full of love though for my family, pets, friends, and life in general so I’m happy.

What is one thing you’re sick of hearing?

“You’ll meet someone when you least expect it.” Look, I’ve been least expecting it for the past 24 years; it’s just not gonna happen!

How often do you feel alone?

More than I would like to admit. It’s hard not to when everyone around me is getting engaged and married. Most of the time, I don’t mind being single, but what no one talks about is having to be your own cheerleader. After a bad day, there is no one at home to cheer me up or give me a hug, I have to make myself feel better. It can be hard and lonely at times.

What is one thing you hope everyone experiences in their lifetime?

Accomplishing a major physical feat. I hiked across the Grand Canyon in one day this summer and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Nothing has boosted my confidence like that! It’s silly, but I now feel like I can do anything!

What is one thing you hope no one has to experience in their lifetime?

Losing a loved one to dementia. I work with a lot of dementia PTs and lost my own grandma to the disease. There is nothing worse than watching someone you love wither away to nothing, I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy.

What is the best decision you’ve ever made?

Choosing the career I did. I’m an introvert’s introvert, so picking a career where I quite literally get paid to talk to people was a big step out of my comfort zone. I’m so glad I did it though, my confidence has skyrocketed and I have made so many wonderful friends.

When do you feel most at ease?

When I'm walking through the woods or curled up on the couch with a good book

What does having a successful life mean to you?

It’s cliché but doing what truly makes you happy. If it’s making lots of money and buying fancy shit, go for it. If it’s traveling the world, go for it. If it’s settling down and raising a family, go for it. We’re on a floating rock in space; it’s not that serious! Do what you love!

How often do you think about your body?

Too often. I’ve had really bad acne in the past, so I’m often overanalyzing my skin, even though it’s gotten much better. I’ve also always been thinner without really trying, and I’m scared of gaining weight in the future. I know it’s silly, but I can’t help it.

When do you ask for help?

Never. I’ve often felt like a burden to others around me, so even though I know I should ask for help, it’s hard.

What is something you feel strongly about?

That most people are good and just trying their best. We’re all in this together and we should show compassion to everyone.

BONUS: Tell me something good.

The leaves are starting to change colors, which means fall is almost here.
