#71. forgiveness, floating & buying yourself flowers

Age: 27

Relationship Status: In a relationship

Occupation: Senior Auditor

Income: 105,000

Astrological Sign: Aries

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Check my phone, call my mom. I’m trying to get out of the habit of going on my phone as soon as I open my eyes, but it’s so hard. Then get ready to go to my lagree or hot yoga class.

Have you ever felt genuine fulfillment? When?

I feel this anytime I’m in the middle of the ocean, floating. I go on a cruise once a year or so, and I always take time to just be alone on the islands that we go to; to float, and just be thankful to be where I’m at. I literally say out loud “I’m so grateful” and truly believe that while I look at the stunning views around me.

What is your most repetitive, negative thought?

I won’t have a happy family when I grow up and will let my childhood trauma get in the way of my happiness as an adult.

What is your most repetitive, positive thought?

I am thankful to be in the position I’m in. Debt free, with a master’s degree, and a six-figure salary. I tend to focus on parts of my life I want to change and don’t reflect enough on the important things that I am so thankful for.

What is one thing that surprised you about adulthood?

How expensive everything is. I still live at home and buying a house seems impossible.

What are three things you want to put every woman onto?

  1. Buying yourself flowers at least once a week

  2. Lagree fitness

  3. OPI big apple nail polish

Rank the following from most to least important:

money, food, sex, love, and laughter (feel free to explain or don’t).

Love, laughter food, money, sex. Food over sex any day.

How has your relationship with your parents/ guardians changed in adulthood?

I used to really hate my dad. He was an alcoholic and abusive my whole life, but a few years ago sobered up. I realized if I have to live under the same roof as him, I need to forgive him for my own sake. I can finally be in the same room as him without storming out. It has made me so much more peaceful and content.

When do you feel most like yourself?

When I’m painting. I can be creative and express myself and feel sane when I realize there’s more to life than a 9-5.

What is the best compliment someone has ever given you?

The way I care for people is unlike something they’ve seen before.

How do you feel about falling in love?

I love love. Someone loving the deepest, and even broken, parts of you is more romantic than anything I can think of.

What is one thing you’re sick of hearing?

You’re meant to be where you are. I get it, but it doesn’t stop me from comparing myself to others sometimes.

How often do you feel alone?

Not often anymore. Anti-depressants saved me from that feeling which is the worst feeling I could think of.

What is one thing you hope everyone experiences in their lifetime?

The unconditional love of a mother. Being close to a parent, really. It’s a love and bond like no other and I can’t imagine not being best friends with my mom.

What is one thing you hope no one has to experience in their lifetime?

Domestic violence.

What is the best decision you’ve ever made?

Letting the people in my life that don’t deserve me leave. Whether it’s a friend or a guy, the best decision was to not run back because of the bond that we had and to realize it’s broken and not the same.

When do you feel most at ease?

Having a glass of wine in my hand and a book in the other, a candle lit while taking a bath.

What does having a successful life mean to you?

Being happy! Money does not equal success. Success is a happy family, a good partner, a good circle of friends who support you.

How often do you think about your body?

Easily, multiple times a day. I workout once a day, sometimes two. Body dysmorphia is real. Some days I feel like the baddest bitch, some days far from it.

When do you ask for help?

Once a week during my therapy session.

What is something you feel strongly about?

Women’s rights. Abortion rights. Rights for a woman to walk outside and not be scared. I don’t know the number of times I flipped off a man or confronted him for sexualizing me in public, but I think they deserve that.

BONUS: Tell me something good.

I just interviewed for my dream job, and I think it went well :)
